Time to get the running shoes...

So yes. I did it....For the past couple of years, in the back of my head i've really wanted to raise money for Kidney Research UK, i've looked at doing marathons, ive looked at organising charity events, Fun runs, you name it i've thought of it.But have i achieved any of them? No!
So a couple of weeks ago i realised that all of the marathons are starting soon, and decided to have a look at the website (i look at every year) to see where the marathons are taking place. There up and down the country,i spotted the "10k Bupa Great Yorkshire Run" so i clicked onto it.It so happened to be in sheffield,so i ummmed and arred and thought yeah maybe this year, and then the excuses started to stack up ..

- Im NOT a runner
- I dont own a pair of running shoes
- Im not fit enough to complete a 10k
- I wont have time to train in roughly 11 weeks
- I dont have running gear
- What if i'm the last person that crosses the finish line?
- I dont want to do it on my own

So yes the excuses carried on stacking pretty high.

Now this may sound weird but yes Sam has had a Kidney Transplant and the only time i acknowledge it is when he has a hospital appointment for a check up or i remind him that he hasn't taken his tablets yet that morning, but even then i just take it for granted and don't think much about the transplant.

Until i stubbled across a story about a 25 year old donor on the BBC website. Please watch it!!

It really made me realise how lucky Sam is and everyone else that is lucky enough to find a donor! There is a waiting list of 6,000 people in the UK waiting for a kidney donor. Sam received his after just under 4 months of been on dialysis which is really lucky! Also on the news i've read that in america scientist are banging there heads together to come up with a way of growing organs to reduce the waiting lists for donors!!! Sam's transplant was from a diseased donor ( the person had agreed for there organs to be removed after the died) but this kidney went to 3 other peolpe and didnt take to their bodies so it was sent to try out living in sam's and it liked it.But unfortunately because of all the passing around and it not been transferred as quickly as possible, part of the kidney decided to call it a day. So sam's kidney now looks like a doughnut!(it actually does, i've seen it on a scan"!)ha ha But its probable because the kidney isn't a full operating kidney, sam will need another transplant sooner rather then later. The kidney has lasted 5 years thus far! Hopefully sam will get another five years from it!

So i signed up to do the marathon, how could i not?I cant wait to do it!!Even if i'm the last person to cross over that finish line.

Can you imagine those 9,000 people receiving a pre made organ, or receiving their transplants quicker? I want the researchers to be funded to have the equipment they need to make magical things happen.

Il keep you updated!!
